ON THE NEEDLES
The second 9 to 5 sock looks like this:
It could be finished by the end of this week. Maybe. If I don’t get seduced by some new and therefore more exciting yarn or pattern. Or both.

BY THE BOOK
OK, what’s up with The Christian Science Monitor? I’m a reader and always enjoy reader recommendations/reviews and TCSM has always been one of my “go to” sources to check out what others are saying about books I’m interested in. The last few times I’ve visited their reader recommendation page, a survey has to be completed before the review can be seen. I can’t find a “no thanks” or an “ask me later” button so it really pisses me off and makes me feel like I’ve been taken hostage by whoever is doing the surveying. Yeah, I know, it just takes a minute and yeah, I know that “they value my opinion” and “want to serve me more effectively”, but it’s the principle of the thing. I hate it and won’t visit their site again. Can you tell that I’m a little irritated and that my desire for instant gratification is showing? Maybe just a little?
ON THE NEEDLES
The 9 to 5 socks are ripping right along, with the heel flap finished, heel turn accomplished and gusset stitches picked up.
9 to 5 sock #1
THE GRANDS
Babydiva had some medical tests run today, nothing major really, although when it’s your kid, everything is major, a swallow study and an upper GI series. She has had some issues with reflux and her doc wanted to get look at what’s happening with her when she eats. I don’t have the details, but early texts from Babymama said everything was fine. Big relieved sigh. Here she is at the birthday celebration Saturday.
Isn’t she beautiful??

ON THE NEEDLES
So, I finally got the heel flap on the 9 to 5 socks under control yesterday and was merrily knitting along, patting myself on the back for finally getting it going, looked down to check my progress and saw that I’d dropped a stitch about two inches ago.
My Sock of Shame
Then, I put it in time out for a few minutes, gathered my nerve and once again, frogged the heel flap. Sigh. Maybe the third time really is a charm. Another sigh.

Wingspan, in Araucania Huasco, Code Color: 7.
Every time I knit with Araucania, I fall a little more in love. It’s definitely a splurge yarn for me, but sometimes I just can’t resist its charms!
BY THE BOOK
I just finished I Am In Here by Elizabeth M. Bonker, about her autistic daughter and her struggle to communicate. It’s a book of hope, courage and commitment; I enjoyed it very much.
I’m rereading (for the nth time) Stephen King’s Dark Tower series. Just started Wolves of the Calla this morning, fourth in the series. No matter how many times I read or listen to this story, I find something new; it never gets old.

UPDATE
I got my haircut on Friday morning and since Babymama was feeling under the weather, I told her I’d go and help her out any way I could. I think she mostly wanted me there so she could limit her contact with Babydiva, hoping that she wouldn’t catch whatever her mom had. Between the salon and their house, I got rearended by some guy driving a Dodge Ram van. I’m OK, not hurt as far as I can tell, just really aggravated because it was hot, we were standing in the middle of a really busy street and it took the cops 40 minutes to arrive and do the paperwork. Fortunately, I held my temper in both hands, reminding myself over and over to just communicate at a minimum, exchange insurance info, making sure everyone was OK for the moment. My car’s back bumper is probably going to have to be replaced, it’s plastic so it doesn’t take much of a hit to mess it up. Things to be thankful for: I was not hurt, my car is driveable and I have insurance.
ON THE NEEDLES
Here is the promised picture of the Nine to Five socks. I think they’re going like gangbusters. What do you think about them?
Here’s a picture of the yarn for Wingspan. It’s already been started and I’m planning to show off what I have on WIP Wednesday. Here is a sneak peek at the yarn. It’s Araucania Huasco, Code Color 7. I thinks it’s going to knit up really well. The French Market bag is complete and I started the felting process yesterday. I’ll have some before and after pics for all to enjoy.

The color doesn’t translate well in the picture, but it’s Lion Brand Fisherman’s Wool and once again I’ve fallen victim to Lost Ball Band Syndrome, so my description of the color is heathery brown. Oh, and can someone tell me why this photo rotated itself onto its side and how I can fix it? Thanks in advance.
FROG?
I still haven’t decided what to do with the neglected Maidenhair Fern sock. Here’s a pic showing the “girly” yarn.
And this one has decided to recline also. Help.

ON THE NEEDLES
Here is my WIP for this week. I know it doesn’t really look like anything yet but you’ll just have to take my word for it, it’s a Cat Hat for a baby, with little ears. This is in anticipation of the Papoose’s new baby brother or sister, estimated arrival first week on October.
Thanks to Adel’s Knit and Craft 2011 and Ravelry for the free pattern.
IN THE OVEN
Yesterday I got my first issue of The Baking Sheet, a King Arthur Flour publication, of recipes, both sweet and savory. One that particularly piques my interest is Coconut Coffeecake. Oops, I forgot about the apple cakes I never got around to doing over the holiday, with the eggs that were in and out of the revolving door (seemingly) of my fridge. Maybe by Saturday, my new silicone pans will be here. I hope so. I’m excited to try them out.

Lace Socks are ongoing and are my WIP again for this week. See?
One more repeat of the pattern for the leg, then on to the heel flap!
Please excuse, I need a poor little me moment. Started with a sore tooth yesterday and this morning got up with a chipmunk cheek on the left and more pain. Will call dentist as soon as his office opens today. Oh, you poor baby! There, I feel better.

and I have a WIP to post. Actually, I have a number of WIPs, but this one happens to be the most urgent – a blanket for my new granddaughter, Harper, whose estimated arrival date is March 23. Yikes, surely it will be finished before then, right?

project post, Farrow Rib Socks, designed by Nicole Okun. I’m actually a little further along than the photo shows. I’m on the instep decreases, on the home stretch to the toe. These are for Mr. Iknead, who likes to wear woolly house socks during the colder months. These are replacing the Jaywalkers he’s finally worn out.
