Act II, The one where the weather

isn’t getting any better today.   Another round, worse than yesterday’s, is predicted for this afternoon and evening.  The radar is starting to get busy and I suppose I can put off grocery shopping one more day.  DD posted a video of the flooding in her neighborhood in Fayetteville on Youtube.  Here’s the link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7qHjL5AI1I.

As for knitting, I absolutely will have a WIP Wednesday post.  In fact, I’m off to a “photo shoot” at this very moment.  (yeah, right)

The one where the weather

just seems to be getting worse and worse.  Talked to DD about an hour ago and she’s been frantically moving stuff upstairs, there’s at least a foot of water outside in her neighborhood.  DSIL is home and safe, but couldn’t get to their driveway to park and had to wade through knee high water to get to the house.

About four hours later:

The weather here in Little Rock has turned really, really nasty.  We’ve had a couple of tornadoes in the central Arkansas area.  Pictures and damage reports have started coming in.  Thankfully, we haven’t lost our electricity at our house but the latest count is about 53,500 customers are without power in Pulaski county.  I’ve been sending and receiving texts all evening.  All present and accounted for.

DD checked in, rain has let up some and water is receding so that’s good news.  Jeez, these last couple of weeks have been something else weatherwise.

The one where she’s amazed

when she looks at her blog site stats and sees that she’s had 60 readers today.  To a greenhorn blogger like me, that’s huge!  Thanks everyone, whoever you are, I’m starting to feel like a real blogger.

Today, the main story here in Arkansas has been the weather.  We had some really strong storms move through late this afternoon and were under a tornado warning for a couple of hours.  When someone mentions tornados here in Arkansas, everyone sits up and takes notice, almost as many as when snow/ice/wintry weather is predicted, without the mad rush for groceries.  We did have some high winds here in central Arkansas but as far as I know, no major tornado touchdowns or damage.

on her newest project, Minnowknits Pinafore Dress.

I’m using Jil Eaton Cottontail, #7520, Aqua.

I can see Susannah in it already.  Come on Spring.

On the subject of Spring, it’s hard to believe that about 48 hours ago, Little Rock was in the middle of a snowstorm, with temps in the 20s.  Today, when I left work, the sun was shining, birds were chirping and the temp was around 50F.  That’s Arkansas weather for you, if it doesn’t suit you, wait 30 minutes because it’s going to change.

I think cupcakes are going to be the project this weekend, haven’t decided what kind, for some reason, cupcakes are ringing my bells tonight.  Maybe a nice yellow cake with strawberries incorporated some way.  Hmmm…

The one where she’s

still obsessed with the weather.  Snowmageddon is scheduled to descend around 1 a.m. tomorrow.  Rats, all this means is that I’ll be up every hour on the hour to peek out the window and see what’s happening.  I’m thinking snow day tomorrow just on lack of sleep alone, with checking and all.  Patting myself on the back all afternoon for going to the store yesterday.  Yes!

OK, I’m ready, got yarn, got computer, got food.  Bring it on!

The one where Snowmaggedon

is predicted.  OK, Arkansas has had more snow in the past two weeks than the years previous.  I get that compared to someplace like Minnesota, Maine, Canada, etc., we’ve not had even a drop in the bucket.  I get that, but, since this is Arkansas and all the weather guy has to say is maybe, possibly or, could but probably won’t, everyone and their dog decides that They Must Go To The Grocery Store Immediately, If Not Sooner and they don’t dare take a chance on running out of frozen pizza, ice cream, chips or any other junk food items even for a few hours.  So, it’s been forecast that “Snowmaggedon” will arrive sometime Tuesday, my grocery list has already been started and I’m debating whether to try to beat the crowd and go tonight after work or take a chance and wait until tomorrow.  Flip a coin.

I caved and went to the store after work.  Had to get butter, eggs, cream cheese, bacon, health food you know.  Now they’re predicting 8+ inches for us.  Wow.

I picked up a pair of socks that I tossed aside about six months ago when my head was turned by a cuter pattern and prettier yarn, but unearthed the sock project accidently.  The pattern is Quickset Socks by Megan Marshall and who knows about the yarn.  That wasn’t unearthed during my initial wip excavation.  If I find it, I’ll post it.  Here’s the stitch detail –

The one where she may be getting

a little weary of the cold weather that’s been blanketing Arkansas the past week or so.  Today, it’s been alternating between sleet and snow since about 8 a.m. or so. Even though it’s really cold, like in the 20s, it’s been nice having my schedule cleared, being able to take my time, piddling around the house and doing some baking.  I made some Sugar Donut Mini Muffins that turned out to be very tasty, just like, duh, sugar donuts.  It’s a keeper I think.  I pulled the recipe from the internet, www.copykat.com, one of my favorite recipe sites.  Quick pic –

Making a commitment to posting every day this year.

I have three loaves of sourdough bread rising in my kitchen right now, one loaf for me, two loaves to share.  UPDATE:  Bread tastes incredible, but won’t win any beauty contests.  I think the cold today in Arkansas kept it from rising as well as it could.  I know I’ve not been as comfortably warm as usual.  Temp now 26F, 5:45 p.m. with snow falling.

I also baked a butter brickle cake.  The colder and wetter the weather, the more I want to bake.  Yum warm cake with coffee.  Will have to work tomorrow, but hopefully inclement weather policy will be in effect and I can catch a few more zzz in the morning.

Thought for today:  There’s always a bigger picture.
