The one where we’ve started

Cleaning out the old house and it’s been easier than I expected. It feels good just to have finally gotten started.

The one where the baby watch

continues.  No, DS and DIL are still waiting.  Her official due date is 03/23, she’s on maternity leave, we practically jump through hoops whenever the phone rings.  I know, I know, she still has a couple of days to go but Mr. Iknead and I can’t wait to meet this new blessing.  Patience is not something I have an abundance of, but some things just can’t be rushed.

Here is today’s WIPW –

Josie the pug is the backdrop to just started Circle Socks, a Ravelry download.  I can’t find the designer’s name to give her/him credit, so sorry!  The yarn is from Pico Accuardi Dyeworks, Acid and Weed, created for “Yarns on Stage” and the colorway is Sneaker Wave, 100% superwash merino.

The Reverse Swirl Blanket for baby Harper is finished, lacking only a quick wash and very gentle block.  That may be my FOF.

The one where I’m totally pumped

and not just because it’s Friday.  On a whim this afternoon, I went to T.J. Maxx, mostly to kill some time, and scored two Le Creuset baking dishes, a 14 inch oval and a 10 1/2 x 7 inch rectangle, for $43.00.  Is it weird that I photographed them so I could post pictures?  I think they’re beautiful!

I also have a FO for FO Friday to show off, the Namibia Socks.  I’ve actually been finished with them for a couple of weeks, but just haven’t had time to take photos and get them posted.  That’s my own fault – if I’d do it more often, I wouldn’t have to learn how to post and such all over again.  Practice, practice, practice.  Here they are:IMG_1292

Here’s a little detail –IMG_1293

Nice, don’t you think?  (Pay no attention to the wonkiness of the pics, can’t quite get it right today).

It’s Tuesday morning and I’m just coming down from my busy bee-ness over the weekend.  I got a lot of things accomplished and have maybe an unhealthy fixation on crossing things off my to-do list, but it works for me.

I finished Mr. Iknead’s socks, he loves them and I love that he loves them.

Along with the abovementioned socks, dear S-I-L, Clefton, had requested a tea cozy a few weeks ago.  Being raised pretty much in the U.K., he likes his tea and this is what I came up with –

IMG_1286

If it looks familiar, it’s because I used my leftover sock yarn from Mr. Iknead’s socks and liked the farrow rib so much, I used it again.  So, at the risk of repeating myself (which my dear children tell me I’m doing more and more often), I used Patons Kroy Sock Yarn, in Cadet Colors.  Turned out well, don’t you think?

Baked three loaves of bread and tried my hand at Salted Caramel Brownies, a nifty little sweet that seems to be the flavor of the day right now.  I made them Saturday afternoon and they’re already history.   The thing about that is that it’s only Mr. Iknead and me at home now, and that’s a short time for two people and a pan of brownies.  Self control? Not so much.

The one with the current WIP Wednesday

project post, Farrow Rib Socks, designed by Nicole Okun.  I’m actually a little further along than the photo shows.  I’m on the instep decreases, on the home stretch to the toe.  These are for Mr. Iknead, who likes to wear woolly house socks during the colder months.  These are replacing the Jaywalkers he’s finally worn out.

The one where I have a 100% authentic

omgdidisaythatoutloud moment and for the record, yes, I did say it out loud.  Here’s a little backstory:  There’s this guy who works out in the same gym as I do and usually about the same time.  In the past few weeks, he’s started making this really odd noise, sort of a moan/singing/grunting sound and loud.  Loud as in I can hear him from across the room, over the other conversations and the TV and over my ipod blasting.  I’ve tried polite looks, more pointed looks and outright irritated stares, he’s oblivious.  So, he climbed on the treadmill next to me yesterday and out of my mouth popped “If you’re going to use that treadmill next to me, you’re going to have to keep your voice a little quieter.”  I can’t believe I really said that; I’d been thinking it, but crap, it just came out.  That was my OMG moment.  I immediately started apologizing profusely and did my best to laugh it off, saying I had no idea he was a singer, hahaha.  Open mouth, insert foot.  Off the chart embarrassment.  Please let him not be there today, pleasepleaseplease.

I’m nearly finished with the first of Mr. Iknead’s new pair of socks.  He’s anxiously awaiting but as mild a winter as Arkansas has had this year, he’s not going to need them.  It’s 8:49 pm and the temp is 66 degrees F. and stormy.

I’ve been working on Debbie Bliss’ Bunny Booties for the new baby due to arrive in March.  All that’s left to do is sew the ears on and embroider their faces.  Entirely too, too sweet.  I’ll get a picture up in the next week or so.

The one about my FO

Friday project.  Yes, I’m back and here it is:

These are the HelloYarns Cable Twist Socks, done up in Shibui Sock, colorway Finch.  Thanks to Mr. Iknead for nice pictures with his fancy new camera.  I’ve never had yellow socks before.  Turned out nicely, I think.

Just cast on a pair for Mr. Iknead today, Nicole Okun’s Farrow Rib Socks, in Patons Kroy Sock FX, in Cadet colors.  I’ll try to prevail upon Mr. Iknead again to get pictures, shouldn’t been difficult, he loves his new camera.

Good, productive day today.  Cast on new sock project, made a meeting, visited my mom and tried my hand at making scones – cinnamon raisin to be exact.  I’ve wanted to try my hand at scones for a while and today, I found a recipe, printed it and made them.  They smell heavenly.  I really want to sample, but I’m trying to wait until I get a picture first.  I love it when a plan comes together!

The one where it’s Sunday

evening and I’m trying to get into the work week groove, getting my clothes for tomorrow ready along with my lunch, getting as much taken care of tonight as I can so that I have the minimum amount of stress and disorganization in the morning.  This plan works for me more times than not, but it does require some preplanning and sometimes, I just don’t want to acknowledge that tomorrow and work are going to happen, I don’t know, something about wanting the weekend to last forever.  Tonight, though, I’ve gotten my T’s crossed and my I’s dotted and there’ll be smooth sailing tomorrow morning.

I finished the socks in progress this afternoon.  Don’t know if I’ve mentioned them or not and am too lazy to go back and check, but the pattern is Cable Twist, a Ravelry freebie and I love them.  They worked up really quickly and easily, which in my case means little or no math involved and straightforward instructions.  Here’s a pic, oops, not so fast.  Mr Iknead informs me that yes indeed, he did take a photo but hasn’t downloaded it as of yet.  Next time.  To tide you over, here’s a current pic of the Papoose, modeling the latest in hair fashions.

I’m apparently a tad rusty on the inserting pictures routine.  I’ll get better, I promise and as quick as I can, get the Cable Twist socks on board.

Knitting

The one where I brag

about my Drop Stitch Shawl, I have one row and the bindoff and it will be finished.  I’m going to add fringe and am toying with the idea of putting beads on the fringe.  Maybe some that look like crystals, or some silvery stuff.  Right now, I’m just basking in the euphoria that comes along with a FO.

Mirrorsocks are coming along.  I love the grays.  I do have to tattle on myself; several repeats of the pattern, patting myself on the back, then I decide to turn the page and see what’s coming up patternwise.  That’s right, There’s a whole row that I didn’t know about.  Not a big deal, the pattern is fine without being added onto, but now I know why reading the complete pattern is recommended BEFORE starting the actual knitting.  Silly me.

The one where I at last

sit down and do some donkey work, uploading the pics onto Flickr and then, in turn, deleting them from my camera.  Since one good turn deserves another, I then can’t rest until I’ve gone though the uploads, now deleting duplicates on Flickr.  Not a hard job, just time consuming, requiring a bit more patience than I usually have.  I feel good anyway, this is something that has languished on my to do list for a couple of months (at least) and I’m glad to have even a little bit of the job done.

Mom has been at Presbyterian Villiage now for a full week and things are going well, I think.  We had a few difficult days, but we expected to have at least a few of those and I think she’s settling into her new routine as well as she can.

My newest sock project is on the needles, Mirrorsocks, in Kollage Yarns Sock-A-Licious, color 7808, a lovely foggy gray, like what I imagine a London fog must be.

The one where she’s still

undecided on her next project.  I have narrowed it down (I think) to some Jojoland Melody Superwash I unearthed a while ago from my stash.  Mind you, this is not set in stone, me being the fly by the seat of my pants kind of woman I am.

A few hours later….

OK, I think I’ve decided on the Constanze cowl and I’m going to give it a test drive with Jojoland Melody Superwash.  Here’s a little preview

I think it’s a keeper.  Also, surprisingly (I’ll probably jinx it, now), I’ve only cast on and started it this one time.  Usually, I have a couple of false starts before I settle into a new project.  A nice change, I think.

One more thing – here’s my FO Friday project for this week.  Announcing the Slippery Socks !!

Here’s a side view –

As usual, Josie has to be up in the middle of everything.  She hates to be upstaged!
