ON MY NEEDLES

Nothing current, but I plan to change that very soon, like within the next hour or so. Yep, you heard it first from me, Tulips are finished, but you’ll have to tune in again on Friday to see the finished product. Mark your calendar. 📅😉

SAY IT AIN’T SO

My close to constant companion for the past several years (besides Mr. iknead), my trusty 160 gig iPod Classic fell ill the end of last week. 😱😭💔 It hasn’t been diagnosed as terminal – yet. Both Mr. iknead and I tried about a 1000 times over the next two days to resuscitate it with no success and I finally gave up and took it to You Break I Fix on Sunday afternoon for a diagnosis. I’m not handling it well. Seriously. I wish I was kidding. Here’s why it’s been traumatic: Apple discontinued the 160 gig Classic in 2009; this means that to fit all my data, I’ll need to buy five new iPods. That’s what I said, FIVE new iPods to house the 2000 or so songs and a couple hundred audiobooks. The guy at the repair shop seemed to think it could be fixed, I hope he’s right.

WHAT I SEE

I’ve gotten into the habit on the weekends to take my iPhone instead of my iPod on my walks and have been taking pictures of things that grab my attention. I’ve learned that what catches my attention are more patterns and colors and not entire images. Example: On my Saturday walk, this pine cone caught my eye, but not the whole thing, just the sort of spiral pattern on one end –

The colors of this plant, maybe some sort of ornamental cabbage?, was what first caught my eye, this was my first impression photo, one where I didn’t know that the zoom was activated; so, the pic was a total surprise when I got home and looked at it.

I went back to get another look and got the whole plant this time. Somehow, it’s not nearly as interesting or intense as a whole. The zoomed photo makes me think of pictures of giant clams in the ocean I’d see in National Geographic when I was a kid, with a row of eyes along the edge of their shells. Can you see them?

I see a mosaic in this tree’s leaves.

undecided about her next project. If I was really forward looking and efficient, I’d start on the iPod socks that I’ve decided might be good stocking stuffers for Christmas. Honestly, though, I can’t think any further ahead than this weekend; again, we’re going to DeQueen to be with my parents and work a little bit, going through things, shredding old paperwork (we found receipts from the 60s) and cleaning out closets. Lots of memories and it’s so hard to not get sidetracked by old pictures, books and everything else that makes up lives lived and memories kept. Very emotional.

Out a new skill – posting a pic to my blog on my iPhone. That’s the closest thing to a computer I have here in the wilds of southwest Arkansas. Here we go, the finished Dragonskin iTouch cover.

Not happening, maybe I’ll be smarter tomorrow.

more jump at the Dragonskin iTouch Cover. Easy to follow pattern, love the way it looks, I think I’m having a day-long brain fart. I keep getting distracted which is nothing new, some days it happen more often than others. I think it’s happening more now because I’ve got too many balls in the air and like always, a few get dropped.

I finished The Boy With the Cuckoo Clock Heart today. OK, I know I’m scattered now, it took about five tries before I got the spelling right on Cuckoo, that’s with the name of the book right in front of me. How many times do I need to spell it Cockoo before I figure out why it looks wrong? Sigh.

Here’s my finally successful start to the Dragonskin iTouch sock. Much, much better.

I do have a project ready for WIP Wednesday. Yay!

The one where she feels

better, more at home in her skin. Today just started out as an uphill climb, not wanting to go to work, not wanting to stay in bed, not wanting to care and caring anyway. Then, like always, by the time I’ve had my coffee, read the paper and gotten ready for work, my attitude had adjusted for the better and I was OK. Amazing.

Here’s a preview of my Ipod sock. The yarn is left over from a pair of socks and I love the color. The blue makes me think of well broken in, well loved blue jeans. Here’s what I have so far –

Just barely got a photo, my camera has gotten way to0 bossy, it doesn’t say “please change battery”, it tells me “change the battery”, no please, no thank you, no nuthin’. Bossy-ass camera.

Slippery Sock is complete and I’ve started on the second. I love the cables and the way the colors really pop.

Mr. Iknead got me a new Ipod for Mother’s Day, the newest model with 160 gigs. I decided yesterday to knit a cozy for it, I’d like to keep it looking shiny and new as long as I can. I decided on Doggerell Designs Dragonskin Itouch Cover, which is a free Ravelry download. I’m not clear on the ins and outs of copyright infringement so I won’t post a photo, but it’s easy enough to check it out on Rav. Speaking of Ipods, this is my third one and am still convinced that it’s the best investment electronics-wise (is that even a word?) I’ve ever made. I keep mine going on the average of seven hours a day during the week, usually listening to audiobooks and music when I work out. I’m reading/listening to an intriguing book at the moment, The Boy With the Cuckoo Clock Heart, by Mathias Malzieu. It’s quirky and offbeat, two things I look for in books and now that I think about it, pretty much everything else. The more oddball and eccentric, the better I like it.

I’ve been playing around with the idea of another blog and have just about decided to go for it, posting on Saturdays about things that interest me and grab my attention, freestyling I suppose you’d call it. This idea is sounding better and better. What am I waiting for?
