Knitting

The one where the Celebration

socks are hanging in there.  I pulled a few moves that Harry Houdini would have been proud of, got them back on the needles and in the right position.  So, as of this moment, they’re moving forward again.

The Minnowknits Pinafore Dress is finished and is cute as cute can be.  Photo will be posted tomorrow for FO Friday.  So sweet and I can see Susannah wearing it already!

I have to work tomorrow and so the baking I’m usually doing on Friday has to be postponed a day, but I also have a committment to bake something for the Sunday meeting.  It’s really a birthday meeting since yesterday was D’s birthday, my birthday is tomorrow and R’s birthday is Saturday.  I’m thinking some sort of pie and some sort of cake.

Knitting

The one where she officially

loathes the Celebration Socks and the yarn they’re made of.  Here’s the story:  broke 1.5 Harmony circ somehow, overjoyed to find I have another one, knows without a doubt that it will be a cinch to get the socks onto the undamaged needle, no fuss, no muss, no dice.  It seems that no matter how hard I try, I cannot get the stupid things on the new needle the way they need to be; they are either backward (with the working yarn not at the first stitch but the last stitch on the needle), one facing front, the other facing back and countless other screw ups that I just can’t describe.  These socks are officially in time out, in a ziplock, behind a closed door, in another room.  This is to keep me from totally frogging them and trashing the yarn just so I don’t have to look at them or think about them ever again.  Can yarn be cursed?  Deep breath, let it out slowly.

We had a wonderful visit with Susannah and her mom (who happens to be our daughter, Lindsey) the past few days, keeping them company while Daddy (who happens to be Lindsey’s DH and our son-in-law) is out of town.  We’re back home in Little Rock now and I’m beginning to gear up for entering the real world again tomorrow.

Here’s a picture of the cursed socks.  Don’t let their looks deceive you, these babies are evil.

Jeez.

The one where she recoils

in horror when she notices that somehow, somewhere, her 1.5 Knitpicks Harmony got broken.  Horrible tragedy, really –

Fortunately, I had a spare, so crisis averted. Whew!

The one where she’s grateful

that she decided at the last minute to just work a half day instead of a whole day, so we left Little Rock around 2:30 p.m., getting to Fayetteville about 5:30 p.m.  Much better than leaving LR at 5:30 p.m. and getting to Fayetteville who knows when.  Glad to be here, glad to see the kids.

Here’s a pic of Josie Pug, the Queen Bee, with her “We are not amused” face.  No baking today, but worked on the Celebration Socks in the car, ready to turn the heel.

While I’m on the subject, here are two more views of En Pointe

I baked two loaves of sourdough today like I’d planned but since the past couple of loaves using my recipe seemed too salty, I cut the salt (actually I’d planned to cut it in half but forget to add it altogether) and evidently the salt cuts some of the sour out of the sourdough.  Way, way sour, edible, but sour.  Bet I don’t forget it next time.

The one where she’s jumping

for joy because her swift and ballwinder arrived today, which was a special sort of surprise because I ordered it from Knitpicks on Wednesday and didn’t expect it to come in for at least a week.  I’ve already limbered it up and of course, like a good little blogger, made before and after pictures:

Knitting

The one where she’s seriously in lust with

this sweater, En Pointe Pullover, Interweave Knits Spring 2011.  It’s got a moebius thing going on and I love it.  I’m going to look for the perfect yarn tomorrow, it’s done up in Louet Kidlin, which may or may not work for me since I’m not familiar with that particular fiber and it has to pass the “fondle test”, of course.  Here’s a pic –

Nothing like a new project to get the juices flowing!

I think I’ll bake another batch of Hello Dollies tomorrow, but tweak the recipe a bit with toffee bits instead of chocolate chips.  If it passes Mr. Iknead’s taste test, I’ll post the recipe.  Yes, I’m aware that I have seven boxes of Girl Scout cookies in the pantry and the last thing we need is more sweets, but when has that ever had any bearing on anything?

Knitting

The one where she’s amazed

when she looks at her blog site stats and sees that she’s had 60 readers today.  To a greenhorn blogger like me, that’s huge!  Thanks everyone, whoever you are, I’m starting to feel like a real blogger.

Today, the main story here in Arkansas has been the weather.  We had some really strong storms move through late this afternoon and were under a tornado warning for a couple of hours.  When someone mentions tornados here in Arkansas, everyone sits up and takes notice, almost as many as when snow/ice/wintry weather is predicted, without the mad rush for groceries.  We did have some high winds here in central Arkansas but as far as I know, no major tornado touchdowns or damage.

The one where she’s ready

to get to Fayetteville to see the Papoose.  I’m loving this grandma thing, just wish they were closer so I could exercise my grandma muscles more often.  I don’t even have any new pics right now, but you can be sure I’ll have some by the time we leave Fayetteville to come home.

OMG, I almost forgot the best thing that happened today – Girl Scout cookies!  $28.00 worth of GSC to be exact.  They’ve been in my possession about six hours now and none of them has been opened.  That’s zero, zilch, nada.  Their days are numbered though; I’m totally taking a box to work to have for lunch tomorrow.  Here they are in all their glory

Bad pic, very interested Josie.  I think she thought she hit the mother lode and was very put out that I put them away.  So sorry.

The one where it’s decided

to continue on with the Celebration socks in hopes that they will grow on me.  I started another Molly scarf to sort of cushion the blow of forging ahead with the socks.  Here’s a quick peek

The one where she has still not decided

if she’s really feeling the love with the Celebration Socks.  The pattern is a definite go, the yarn, not so much.  I like the colors, just not all together.  I did manage to get a picture outside today; take a look –
